Snow mold - A common cause of early spring sniffles

It is not uncommon to experience congestion and sniffles as soon as the weather warms up and the snow starts to melt exposing acres and acres of snow mold.

Snow mold, also known as snow rot, is a type of fungal lawn disease that forms when snow cover or wet leaves remain on the lawn too long, and start to break down and rot.

Snow mold, along with other fungi that grow in a thawing, damp environment, often produce spores that are likely to kick up allergies. Sneezing, a runny nose, and congestion are some common symptoms, and often lasts until the spring rains wash them away.

In addition to increasing your Vitamin C (2000mg 2x daily), taking a probiotic daily and avoiding dairy for a week or two, there are various treatments for snow mold allergies which include:

Respiractin

  • This herbal combination is really effective at helping to open up the airways, reducing congestion and improving overall immune system function. It is my number one go to for any form of Upper Respiratory Congestion or illness.

Adaptogen

  • I found out about how well this supplement supports allergy reduction when a number of patients, given this supplement to help treat their chronic stress, told me how their allergies didn’t bother them when they used this through out allergy season.
  • The combination of the herbs: Ashwagandha, Astragalus, Holy Basil and Eleuthrococcus not only helps reduce the impact of chronic stress, but also help support increased anti-allergy and anti inflammatory pathways by effectively supporting the immune system.

Lymphdiaral

  • I talk about Lymphdiaral a lot, and for good reason. Not only does it improve lymphatic drainage, which supports improved immune function and allergy reduction, it helps to reduce swelling and inflammation, a hallmark sign of allergies

Funginail essential oil

  • Granted, this essential oil blend is effective for toenail fungus, I think I need to change the name of this combo as it is also amazing when used for steam inhalations to treat sinus infections and congestion, especially when mold or yeast is the issue.

Respiratory Relief

  • Similar to respiractin, but not an ingested medicine, this essential combination is amazing at helping to relieve symptoms of allergies, nasal congestion and overall stuffiness.
