Teas and Essential oils for a Happy Tummy

Often people think that big pain needs big medicine. However, I have found that not to be the case at all, especially when it comes to stomach issues. Looking for the root cause is always my number one goal, but sometimes it takes a little while to discover what is causing people's distress. In those cases, or in times when we are not fully in control of our diets, it is good to know that there are safe and effective remedies we can use.

Two teas I recommend for those with ‘sensitive stomachs’ are the Harmony Tea Co’s Happy Tummy Signature Blend and Spirit Balance Blend Teas.

Happy Tummy Tea

This is a fantastic tea that aids in digestion, and is especially good after eating too much food (Easter, Christmas etc) as it contains a number of herbs that help reduce the feeling of fullness and bloating.

Additionally this blend improves overall digestion and supports regularity when consumed on a regular basis.

Spirit Balance Blend

Stress can negatively impact our digestion and for those of you that notice that increased stress impacts your digestion, Spirit Balance Blend will be incredibly helpful. Containing herbs such as spearmint, lemon balm and holy basil, this blend helps to reduce stress and the impact it has on our digestion.  Not only that but it helps to improve sleep and mental focus as well.

Additionally, essential oils work incredibly well to improve our digestion but are NOT recommended to be ingested! Here are 3 of my favorites I use a lot.

Happy Tummy Essential Oil Blend

I have used this blend on a number of occasions, not only in a diffuser, rubbing it on my stomach as well as massaging it into the stomach reflexology point on the bottom of my feet.

It is a combination of a number of oils such as peppermint, ginger and fennel and it works like magic!

Ginger Essential Oil

Ginger has long been known to help reduce nausea and motion sickness, but it is also a fantastic digestive aid overall.

I typically recommend this when my patients are having stomach issues and are also feeling a bit chilled or lethargic as it has a warming action.

Applied to the stomach and covered with a hot pack it can reduce any digestive upset in no time.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil has so so so many useful qualities but as a digestive aid, it stands out. Not only does it help to reduce pain, but it calms the muscles of the stomach and improves bile flow, which helps the body to digest fats more efficiently.  It is also known to help reduce the pain associated with IBS and reduces gas, bloating and indigestion.
