“The good stuff” A summary of helpful nutrients and teas to stay healthy all winter long

Everyone wants to stay healthy all winter long, but health is more than just avoiding the sniffles.  We also want to ensure our weight is on track, our skin is glowing, our energy is high and yes, our immune systems are strong.

Here are some of the essentials I keep in my cupboard all winter long

Vitamin D3

Yes, I’ve talked about this over and over and over AND this is because this is one of the 24 chemicals that are critical for human survival. We NEED Vitamin D.  We get lots of this naturally in the spring, summer and early fall, but come Halloween not so much.  So we need to supplement to keep our immune system strong, to keep our moods up, to improve our energy levels, reduce our risk of cancer and diabetes  and to keep our hormones balanced.

Remember 1tsp of sugar depresses our immune cells for 6 hours!!

Not only that but it keeps our bones strong and boosts our testosterone levels (which is good for both men and women!)

And if you do happen to  catch a virus, having adequate levels of Vitamin D will facilitate bouncing back faster without the risk of complications.

-am I deleting the above in red?

Zinc

Zinc is another immune-boosting supplement that is found in pumpkin seeds and oysters, among other foods.  But if you’re not a fan of oysters, you can get this nutrient in capsule or lozenges. It  is crucial to reduce viral infections and to keep our immune system powered up.  One note of caution, be sure to take zinc with food or it may upset your stomach

Berberine

I don’t talk about this little gem very often, but I can’t forget about it as it is so important.  Especially during the months when we tend to over indulge,  spend less time moving and more time in front of our screens, occasionally succumbing to the munchies. From Hallowe’en to Valentine's Day we are exposed to a heap of sugar, all of which can weaken our immune system.

Remember 1 tsp of sugar depresses our immune cells for 6 hours!!.

The combination of less movement and more sugar can weaken our immune systems and make us susceptible to getting sick.

This is where Berberie comes in. It is a natural supplement primarily used to decrease glucose after a meal, and It helps activate  an enzyme that helps with insulin sensitivity. Taken with meals it is a real game changer!

Curcumin

For anyone that is a fan of Indian foods and curries, you know about this spice, which just happens to be a powerful antioxidant and a super liver support.  This is the active ingredient in Turmeric, and has so many great attributes.  Not only does it help to reduce respiratory infections, it soothes and has beneficial effects on our lungs and our liver.  It is a powerful pain reliever as well.

It needs to be taken with a little bit of pepper so ensure your cooking or your supplements include this as well.

Magnesium

For all of you who read my posts, this supplement is a star and a common visitor, and for good reason.  It is not only the fourth most abundant mineral in the body but it is important for your bone health, muscle contraction, and relaxation.

It also stabilizes your blood glucose, helps you manage stress more effectively and  improves both sleep and digestion.

Taken before bed it helps reduce restlessness and you’ll sleep soooo well.

AntiAging Signature Blend Tea

I know I shouldn’t pick favorites, but this tea is just SO good.  Not only does it taste great with hints of chocolate and blueberries, but  especially in the winter when our skin can take a beating from the dry indoor air, this blend is fantastic.  It is chock full of antioxidants which are crucial to help reduce wrinkles and support glowing, healthy skin.

2 cups a day and people will think you’ve turned back the clock.

You’re welcome :)
